Emulator Controls:
[BREAK] = pause emulator
[NUM-LOCK] = reset emulator
[F8] = Insert next disk (multi-disk MSX games only)
[F9] = toggle overlay (display FPS, throttling, sync status)
[F11] = toggle throttling
[F12] = toggle VSync
[ESC] = exit emulation and return to front-end

Arcade/Sega Master System Controls (configurable):
[5] = insert coin (arcade only)
[1] = start (arcade only)
[cursors] = move
[left-ctrl] = button 1
[space] = button 2
[left-shift] = button 3 (arcade only)
[Z] = button 4 (arcade only)
[X] = button 5 (arcade only)
[C] = button 6 (arcade only)

MSX Controls:
The keys from the MSX are mapped to the PC keyboard. This means that the controls config menu doesn't work with the MSX emulator. Remember that in many games (especially Konami games), the second action button is usually the 'M' key.

Notes

JEmu2 needs a Java Virtual Machine version 1.4 or higher installed on your computer to work. If the above link doesn't start JEmu2, you most likely don't have a recent JVM installed. If you don't have a recent JVM installed, please go here to install a new one (version 1.4 or higher).

August 29, 2007 - Version 4.1 released!
Chris White finished the Out Run driver, which is now included in JEmu2. It works great, and supports sound as well!
Out Run is a personal favourite of mine, so I'm very happy that it finally made it in JEmu2. Thanks, Chris! :-)
This version also includes a number of little fixes and enhancements in sound rendering and timing.

July 29, 2007 - Out Run progress!
When I was working on Sega X-Board and Y-Board emulation I also started an Out Run driver, but it never got passed
a working text layer. Alas, I got other things on my mind and left it at that stage.
But recently, Chris White (from JavaGear fame) started working on it and he seems determined to get it working too!
He already got the background tiles and zooming sprites working as well. Check out his progress with screen shots on Chris White's Blog.
It seems more and more likely we'll see a working Out Run driver in JEmu2 soon, so stay tuned!

August 26, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.7 released!
Although there are no new games in this version, it is still a pretty exciting release; the introduction of VirtuArcade!
As far as I know, VirtuArcade is the first real 3D virtual arcade with 20 emulated arcades running at once. You can simply just walk to the game of your liking, insert a virtual coin and start playing!
New in this version:
* Introduction of VirtuArcade!
* State saving support for MSX.
* Menu bar and help option in front end.
* Some fixes and optimizations in various drivers.
Please keep in mind that VirtuArcade may take a while to initialize the first time!

August 13, 2006 - Announcing VirtuArcade.
An exciting new step in online arcade emulation!
Check out the JEmu2 development blog for more information and an early screenshot.

August 13, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.6 released!
New in this version:
* Added support for Space Harrier (mouse controlled)
* Added samples support to dkong and dkongjr
* Added sound support to blktiger (not 100% correct)
* Added partial sound support to roadf
* Fixed a weird timing issue where some drivers on some computers running certain versions of java ran at the wrong speed.
* Changed timing in sound system to prevent sound chip emulators getting out of sync.

August 5, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.5 released!
This release is a pretty major update; a lot has been improved and changed. Here's what's new:
* There is now just one front end with sections for Arcade, Sega Master System and MSX.
* Significantly reduced memory footprint.
* Improved the sound system to prevent buffer underruns in case the game runs too slow.
* Reduced glitches in the Y-Board driver games Power Drift and Galaxy Force II.
* Added Strike Fighter to the arcade section.
* Added game cache to replace caching by JWS. This minimizes the first time download size.
* The front end now remembers 'windowed', 'sound disable' and 'renderer' settings.
* The SamplePlayer now loads from ZIP files.
* Added a new K051649 (MSX SCC sound chip) emulator which enhances the sound to a wide stereo output.
* Added 3 new unfiltered rendering modes (Default Plain, Scanlines Plain, Scale2X Plain).
July 23, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.4 released!
* Added support for Sega Y-Board hardware.
* Added the Y-Board games Galaxy Force II, Rail Chase, G-LOC Air Battle and Power Drift.
* More performance enhancements in After Burner 2 (about 15%) and improved audio mixing.
* Moved Street Fighter II to the 16-bit arcade section, and removed the CPS games link from the site.
Please note that Y-Board emulation needs a fast PC to run at full speed. If these games run too slow, try to disable sound and consider downloading java 1.6 beta, which is quite a bit faster.
P.S. remember both X-Board (After Burner II) and Y-Board games can be controlled using Mouse or Keyboard.

July 21, 2006 - Getting ready for a release!

July 17, 2006 - W.I.P. news
I've posted some news about my current progress with a new Sega Y-Board driver on the JEmu2 development Blog.
You will see some screen shots there of Galaxy Force 2 and Power Drift in action.

July 8, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.3.3 update
New in this update:
* Added sound to After Burner 2!
Please notice that sound takes a performance hit to this already resource hungry game. If you find that the game runs too slow on your PC, consider trying the Java 6 Beta JVM. It's quite a lot faster and it might make After Burner 2 run full speed if your PC is too old to run it full speed. You can download Java 6 here. Another option is to disable sound. To play After Burner 2, click the JEmu2 (16bit games) link.

July 2, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.3.2 update
New in this update:
* Improved performance of the sega X-Board driver, making After Burner 2 running ~25% faster.

June 30, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.3.1 update
New in this update:
* Online high score support for After Burner 2
* Implemented a workaround for a 1.6 Beta JRE bug

June 30, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.3: After Burner 2!
This release adds a fully playable After Burner 2, running on the Sega X-Board arcade system!
To play After Burner 2, click the JEmu2 (16bit games) link.
For more info and screenshots, head over to the JEmu2 development blog.
Also new in this version:
* Fixed random crashes in Street Fighter 2
* Fixed glitches in Snow Bros. Nick & Tom
* Replaced the MC68000 CPU core with Stephan Dittrich's jM68k

May 12, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.2.1 released
New in this update:
* Fixed the controls in Space Invaders, Check Mate, Amazing Maze, Hexa, News, Ping-Pong, Rock 'n Rope. SonSon and Tropical Angel.

May 6, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.2 released
New in this version:
* Added 9 MSX2 games: Xevious - Fardraut Saga, Zanac-Ex, Quarth, King's Valley 2, The Treasure of Usas, Dragon Slayer 4, Famicle Parodic, Quinpl and Penguin-Kun Wars 2.
* Improved MSX2 driver compatibility.
* Improved V9938 accuracy. (The MSX2 VDP)
* Fixed a subtle but important bug in the Z80 CPU core, which improved both the MSX2 driver and the SMS driver.
(I didn't update the applet yet, but I will soon)

As you can see, most work has gone into MSX2 emulation improvement which turned out to be much harder than I expected.
Many MSX2 games seem to be extremely dependent on correct timing of the hardware and on correct emulation of almost every single flag of the Video Display Processor (the V9338), and there's an awful lot of them.
This release made a lot of progress in that area.

April 29, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.1.1 released
The last release unfortunately broke the I/O port reading in all drivers (including the MSX driver) except the SMS driver. This has now been rectified and all drivers should be functional again.

March 26, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.1 released
New in this version:
* Added state saving in the Sega Master System driver (F6=save, F7=load).
* Much improved compatibility, accuracy and performance of the Sega Master System driver.
* Added 28 Sega Master System games.
* Implemented online high scores for 10 more Sega Master System games.
* Fixed a small problem in the MSX driver (fixing the border of Firebird).

March 17, 2006 - JEmu2 version 3.0 released
New in this version:
* Brand new Sega Master System Emulation!
* Added 23 Sega Master System games.
* Implemented online high scores for Sonic The Hedgehog, Hang-On, Out Run, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Super Wonder Boy, Shinobi and Alex Kidd in Miracle World. The current SMS emulator still has some room for improvement, although it will play the current games just fine.
Read more about it on the JEmu2 Development Blog.
The SMS emulator is currently only available using the Java Web Start link, applet support will follow soon.

March 4, 2006 - JEmu2 version 2.3 released
New in this version:
* Improved MSX-2 support (more emulated VDP instructions, correct sprite colours)
* Added Gryzor (Contra), Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Super Runner and Ashguine 2

Feb. 18, 2006 - JEmu2 version 2.2.1 released
The M62 driver (missing controls in Kung-Fu Master) is fixed. This release is just a minor bugfix release as far as the main emulation engine goes,
but from now on, you can also play the arcade games in your browser as an applet! So if you're having problems getting the Java Web Start version to
work, you can try it out in your browser.
This applet version doesn't support saving of highscores though (but that might change in the future).
